Leah+Spencer=Buoyant!

A traditional shot... in an untraditional spot!

It's always fun to shoot a wedding at a new location! We were excited to be photographing Leah and Spencer's wedding at the UBC Boathouse - the first wedding ever held there!

This location is incredible - great architecture and stunning views of the city beyond the Fraser River. It's also a very meaningful place for Spencer & Leah. Spencer's there regularly at 5:00am(!) to coach the St George's rowing team. And he and Leah are both avid rowers - they first met through the sport. They wanted to select a spot that had personal meaning to them - to "come full circle" as Leah put it.

Here are a few quick favourites from their day!

The beautiful Leah gets ready...

While Spencer waits for her arrival at the church (with his new watch - a rehearsal dinner gift from Leah)

The lovely ceremony at the lovely heritage church the Minoru Chapel.

A warm welcome from the rowing team!

Okay, these are actually dragon boats...but they still look pretty cool! Love the leading lines in these shots.

We snuck outside when it was dark to get some cool shots with the lights of the venue and the city...

...before Leah & Spencer had their first dance as husband and wife.

Congratulations guys! have a wonderful time sailing in Greece!

ME! Session: Erin

Add a Betsey Johnson dress, some killer shoes, and a little rain to Erin's bubbly personality and you get one fabulous Me! Session!

Despite the clouds and rain, we had a blast photographing Erin and her friend Jamie (her Me! Session to be posted soon). Erin's graduating in just a few days and is all set to bring her energy & passion to her study of fashion - look out, Betsey! Here are some of our favourites from her session.

Dreamy...

Contemplative...

Sassy.

And beautiful.

I think this one is my favourite of the favourites!

Happy graduation, Erin!

Jasmine+Kenny=REAL WEDDINGS Cover Story!

Congrats to one of our September 06 couples Jasmine & Kenny! Their playful beach wedding is featured in the current issue of Real Weddings Magazine. And our photograph of their gorgeous cake, created by the fabulous Heather & Lori of Cupcakes, is the cover image.

Inside their 8-page spread, you can see that this amazing cake is the top layer of six layers of cupcakes! Jasmine had to climb up on a chair to slice it, and she did so with characteristic style: with a giant Chinese meat cleaver! These guys were so much fun to photograph - their energy and excitement made our job easy!

If you need some great ideas for your upcoming wedding, be sure to pick up this issue - Mike Alexander and his fabulous staff outdid themselves with this issue, their tenth (and biggest!) to date!

Happy Father's Day!

On father's day, a portrait of my dad, Steve. He just celebrated a whopper of a birthday, but you'd never guess his age. His nights out on the town ballroom dancing, boating adventures, and his endless construction projects around our house keep him young at heart. And if there are any ladies out there looking for a charming European gentleman who can make a mean goulash, he's single!

Thanks dad for giving me my first camera (a Canon AE-1)and building me a darkroom in the basement when I was a kid. Without your encouragement I never would have become a photographer, and that would have really sucked!

And a big fat happy fathers day to Lynn's dad also. Lionel's on a multi-day kayak adventure in the Broken Islands with my sister-in-law Laura (sorry we couldn't come, not-so-sorry we missed out on the past three days of rain-soaked paddling!) He's always been there for us too & we're so glad he and Lynn's mom Anne moved out west to BC. Without him, I wouldn't have Lynn .... and that would REALLY suck! You're up next for a portrait when we head over to the island for our next visit.

Happy Father's Day to both of you and lots of love.

Chris

Karen+Bryan=Classic

Karen & Bryan had some gorgeous Vancouver weather for their wedding. And everything about their day was simply classic. Here are some of our favs!

Accessories, accessories! Love those Jimmy Choo shoes!
Getting ready...

A classic beauty.

I just love when couples share a "First Look". The idea of the groom offering flowers to his bride when he sees her for the very first time is so romantic.

Bryan surprised Karen with a red Gerbera daisy just like the one he offered her on their first date together. He enjoyed the mountain view as he waited patiently for her on the pier (check out the chill lining on his jacket).

Happy day!

I love the simplicity of this image.

What gorgeous vibrant colours for Karen's bouquet (yes, it's true ~I'm partial to it since it's the same colour combo as our new website!).

The couple headed to the ceremony in a 1935 Rolls Royce chauffeured by the always charming and helpful Adrian.

Karen and Bryan exchanged their vows in the early evening when the light was just perfect at Cecil Green. A tender moment during the ceremony.

More red gerberas on the funky cake!

A beautiful dance to start their lives together.

And a quiet moment to end the evening...

Congratulations, K+B!

ME! Session: Linda

Lots of news and lots to blog: two magazine features, two great NYC weddings with the incredible Jason Groupp, and many fun ME+YOU sessions here in sunny Vancouver! But first, another ME! session.

Since we posted our images of Alex, we've had lots of requests to photograph teens, especially graduates who want to commemorate their final month of school. I don't know about you, but I shudder when I remember my school pics - they all looked so lame & cheesy... Our ME! sessions are one way to celebrate all the aspects of your unique personality - whether you're headed into high school, taking off to university, starting a new job, or are just celebrating a personal milestone.

Here are some of our favourites from a ME! Session with Linda!

We had so much fun shooting a YOU+ME session with Anna + Ilya in NYC a few weeks ago! And Laura, the super-talented videographer from lauraanncinema.com (who also happens to be my sister!) was there to capture it. Check it out!

Me! Session: Alex

In my very first job as a fresh-faced teacher out of university, I had the wonderful privilege of working at the best elementary school in BC! There, I got to teach, and learn from all my wonderful students. Including the incredibly talented Alex, who was accepted at one of the most prestigious universities in North America for design. It was great hanging out with him in the Big Apple!

Here are some of our favourite images from our shoot with him in the city - so hard to pick less than a dozen!

Can you tell he's taking courses in fashion? (He gave Chris a few good tips!)

This wall was perfect to show off another side of his personality. This was one of Alex's favsThis was one of Chris'. Love the wide angle (but even when you click on it to see it bigger, this size doesn't do it justice - it needs to be printed BIG!)

We couldn't stop laughing when we reminisced about Alex's role as the dancing Grasshopper in the Junior School Musical (and the costume of his co-star, the EarthWorm). Hey, wait - didn't that Grasshopper's Peach land in NYC at the end of the show?

And last , but not definitely not least, one Alex said he thought "his mom would really like."
This one is for you, Cathy!

Thanks, Alex! It was so great to see you again & I can't wait to see what success lies ahead for you!

Chris and I love doing innovative portrait sessions - if you or someone you know might be interested in having a ME photo-shoot, let us know. And keep an eye out for our new teen website especially for Senior School students - coming in Fall 07!
